Biobank Services
NorthernBio’s biobank supplies tissue, blood, CSF and ocular fluids from naive NHP, swine, rabbit, canine, sheep and rat, so your research can move forward without long procurement delays.

Samples From a Preclinical CRO You Can Trust
Every sample comes from NorthernBio’s AAALAC-accredited, USDA-licensed facilities in West Michigan, where our teams have run preclinical research for more than 30 years. Samples are collected and handled under consistent, quality-controlled procedures, giving you material you can count on from one order to the next.
- AAALAC-accredited and USDA-licensed facilities
- Consistent, quality-controlled collection and handling
- Faster access than sourcing hard-to-find species and matrices on your own
- Animal history documentation available on request.
How Researchers Use Our Biobank
Assay development and method validation
Species-matched blank matrix for developing and validating bioanalytical methods.
Non-animal and in vitro models
Consistent biological material for building models that reduce the need for new animal studies.
Pilot and exploratory work
Tissue and fluid samples for early feasibility testing before committing to a full study.
Supporting the 3Rs
Our biobank puts samples from naive animals in our colonies to further scientific use. Researchers can develop non-animal models, reduce the total number of animals used, and work with consistent, quality-controlled samples. It’s one more way NorthernBio acts on its commitment to replacement, reduction, and refinement.
How It Works
Step 1: Tell us what you need
Share the species, matrix, tissue types, and amounts in the quote form below.
Step 2: We confirm availability
Our biobank team follows up within 2 business days with availability, pricing, and timing.
Step 3: Samples ship to your lab
Samples in our current inventory ship within 2 weeks, packed to suit each sample type (ambient, ice packs, or dry ice). We ship internationally; where CITES permits are required, they can affect timelines.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Biobank Services
What species and matrices are available right now?
Our largest inventory is nonhuman primate samples: tissue, fixed tissue, blood, CSF, aqueous humor, and vitreous humor. We also stock samples from swine, rabbit, canine, sheep, and rat. See the full list in the Species and Matrices section above.
Are samples collected from naive animals, treated animals, or both?
All biobank samples are collected from naive animals.
What is the minimum order quantity?
There is no minimum order. Request the amount your study needs and we will confirm what is available.
How quickly can samples ship?
Samples already in our biobank inventory ship within 2 weeks. If a new collection is required, timing depends on operational and animal resource availability, and we will give you an estimate when we confirm your request.
What documentation comes with each order?
Animal history documentation is available on request for any order.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. International shipments that require CITES permits may take longer, and we will flag that during the quoting process.
Can you collect custom samples to order if you don't have them in inventory?
Often, yes, depending on operational and animal resource availability. Custom collections depend on operational and animal resource availability, so tell us what you need in the quote form and our team will let you know what is possible.
